Keane Wants Simeone as United Crisis Deepens for Carrick

Manchester United’s form has gone from worrying to downright ugly, and Michael Carrick now looks like a manager running out of road after a 4-1 hammering by Como on Wednesday night.

The Old Trafford club were torn apart at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, with Nico Paz striking twice before Anastasios Douvikas and Jacobo Ramon added to the misery. Joshua Zirkzee’s late consolation barely made a dent in what was a miserable evening for the travelling support.

That defeat leaves United staring at back-to-back losses in the Champions League, following a similar setback against Atletico Madrid last week. Add in the fact they have managed only one win from seven league games, and you do not need to be a tactical genius to see the scale of the mess.

Keane’s answer? Simeone, and plenty of edge

When United are in trouble, Roy Keane’s name is never far from the conversation. The former captain has never been one for soft soap, and he has already made it clear who he would like to see in the dugout if the club decide Carrick has had his chance.

Keane has long been a fan of Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, and he once explained his thinking on The Overlap: he wants a manager who brings authority, personality and a bit of fire back to the place. In Keane’s words, Simeone would “create havoc” — but the good kind, the sort that shakes standards back into a club that has lost its way.

And frankly, there is logic in that view. United have looked far too easy to play against for too long, and Simeone would bring the exact opposite of that. He has built Atletico into a hard-nosed, organised and fiercely competitive side, winning La Liga twice and reaching two Champions League finals. That sort of pedigree does not come cheap, mind you — he is one of the best-paid managers in world football.

Carrick under pressure ahead of Bournemouth

For Carrick, the picture is bleak. United have not even confirmed whether he will still be in charge for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth, which tells you everything about the current mood around the club.

TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook was blunt in his assessment during the Como defeat, suggesting Carrick could be on the brink after the fourth goal went in. When a club legend is talking up replacements and pundits are openly questioning survival, the writing is usually on the wall.

United need more than a reaction; they need a reset. At the moment, they look short of confidence, short of control and short of leaders. And if the hierarchy decide another change is needed, Keane has already given them a name — one that would certainly rattle a few cages.
