United crank up Kroupi chase as £100m storm brews

Manchester United, fresh from punching their ticket back to the Champions League with that breathless 3-2 over Liverpool, are zeroing in on Bournemouth livewire Eli Junior Kroupi, per reports. United scouts have been out in force, taking in his last two outings against Leeds United and Crystal Palace — and he obliged with goals in both.

United’s summer blueprint

With a third-place finish in sight unless they wobble down the home straight, United can put the foot down on recruitment. The headline job is central midfield: at least two additions are wanted, maybe three, with the exits of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte anticipated. One report suggests roughly £150m has been earmarked for that engine-room rebuild, while a left-winger, left-back, striker and potentially a centre-back are also on the agenda.

The numbers in play

Sports Boom reckon United are preparing an opening offer of around £43m plus bonuses for Kroupi. Bournemouth, who shrewdly nabbed him for about £10m in 2025, are in no mood to fold — the iPaper says they value the teenager at close to £100m and will only sell if an offer blows them away.

Why all the fuss about Kroupi?

The 19-year-old Frenchman has racked up 12 Premier League goals in 30 appearances, operating primarily as a centre-forward but equally comfortable as a false nine or drifting into attacking midfield zones. He’s quick, clever with his movement and tidy in the final third — the sort who makes defenders turn their heads at the wrong moment. Teammate Marcus Tavernier has been effusive about his ceiling, and you can see why.

Competition: queue at the door

There’s no clear run to his signature. Arsenal and Liverpool are both said to admire his tactical flexibility — he’d slide into Mikel Arteta’s fluid front line and offer Liverpool new angles in attack. Chelsea have spoken to his camp, though their European picture is murky. Overseas, Real Madrid are monitoring him as a depth piece, while Paris Saint-Germain see the appeal of repatriating a rising French star.

Would he fit at Old Trafford?

On paper, absolutely. United need youthful thrust and goals to mesh with a revamped midfield. Kroupi’s ability to lead the line, drop into pockets and link play would add variety and verve. The sticking point is price versus proof: 12 in 30 is excellent for a teenager, but nine-figure talk is rarefied air. A smart, incentive-heavy package — paying big if he hits elite benchmarks — feels the pragmatic route.

Pundit’s verdict

United should be in the conversation, but they’ve got to play the market with a cool head. Start around £43m plus add-ons, stress the upside, and be ready to walk if the auction spirals. With midfield the true priority, splashing the whole war chest on one forward only makes sense if you’re convinced Kroupi is the long-term spearhead. He might just be — there’s real stardust there — but the deal must fit the broader rebuild.

Either way, this is a statement summer at Old Trafford. Back among Europe’s elite and hunting a new talisman, United are setting the tone early. Now comes the brinkmanship — and we’ll see whether Bournemouth blink.
