United weigh Amass recall as injuries bite for Amorim

Manchester United have a decision to make, and quickly. With injuries nibbling away at Ruben Amorim’s options, the club have opened the door to recalling teenage left-back Harry Amass after Sheffield Wednesday confirmed face-to-face talks over his future.
Amass talks in motion
Henrik Pedersen didn’t play coy. The Wednesday boss revealed club representatives travelled to Manchester last week to discuss Amass’ situation and what the second half of the season might look like. United hold a break clause in the loan, and Wednesday are braced for an update in the next two or three weeks.
The 18-year-old has been a revelation at Hillsborough: 11 consecutive Championship starts and his first senior goal in a spirited 3-1 defeat to Southampton last weekend. He’s playing with personality, overlapping with purpose, and defending his flank like he owns it — the sort of education you can’t fake at this level.
Bottom line: United have held face-to-face talks, a recall clause is active, and a call is expected within a fortnight — while Wednesday would love to keep a youngster who’s delivering week after week.
What it means for Amorim and United’s left flank
Amass isn’t a mystery to Amorim. The Portuguese tactician handed the youngster his United debut in March, giving him seven senior outings last term — four of them Premier League starts — and 345 minutes across all competitions, including two in Europe. The kid’s tasted the pace of top-flight football; he hasn’t looked out of place.
If I’m Amorim, the equation is simple: don’t haul him back unless you’re giving him meaningful minutes after Christmas. But with injuries mounting and fixtures stacking up, the temptation to bring a confident, match-sharp left-back back into the fold is very real. Wednesday, understandably, want him for the run-in — he’s been one of their most reliable outlets on the left.
Injury latest: Sesko, Maguire, and the absentee list
The 2-2 draw at Tottenham came at a price. Benjamin Sesko and Harry Maguire were both forced off, adding to Amorim’s selection headache. The early noises around Sesko are cautiously upbeat — his camp believe the knee issue may not be serious — but it’s still an unwelcome scare.
United were already without long-term absentee Lisandro Martinez and the influential Kobbie Mainoo in North London, the latter not travelling due to a minor problem. It all leaves United seventh after 11 games, with Everton visiting Old Trafford on 24 November once the international break is out of the way.

The pundit’s verdict
Amass is earning his stripes the hard way — exactly how full-backs should. If United can promise him real minutes, a recall makes sense given the injuries and the calendar chaos ahead. If not, let him keep flying at Hillsborough and revisit it in January. Either way, the lad’s on the right track — and Amorim’s hand may soon be forced.
