Spurs on the brink: 18 names circling as Thomas Frank feels the heat

Tottenham Hotspur are wobbling again, and the natives are getting restless. After a bright start under Thomas Frank — the Dane who stepped in for Ange Postecoglou following Spurs’ Europa League triumph — the wheels have threatened to come off, with limp losses to Chelsea, Arsenal and Fulham stirring up the South Stand. The chatter has started: if the board blinks, who’s next?

The lay of the land: odds board takes shape

According to Sports Casting’s latest pricing, there’s a crowded market gathering pace. For those scanning best betting sites updates, here’s the current picture — and, yes, these prices reflect where the wind is blowing right now: serial winners, project-builders and a couple of romantic reunions all in the frame.

The outsiders with pedigree

There’s no shortage of big reputations in the long grass at 20/1: Thiago Motta, Regis Le Bris (now at Sunderland), Michael Carrick, Julian Nagelsmann and Sir Gareth Southgate. Motta and Nagelsmann bring the continental polish, Le Bris and Carrick represent modern coaching nous, while Southgate would be a culture reset. They’re outsiders, but not no-hopers.

The 16/1 cluster: experience and intrigue

A step shorter, the 16/1 bracket is a curious mix: Roberto De Zerbi (currently at Marseille), Erik ten Hag (fresh from Manchester United), former Dortmund boss Edin Terzic, and Spurs icon Robbie Keane. De Zerbi would match the club’s attacking ideals; Ten Hag offers structure; Terzic knows how to steer a giant under pressure; Keane would be the heart-over-head swing.

The chasing pack: 14s, 12s and 10s

Brendan Rodgers at 14/1 makes sense on pure Premier League craft. At 12/1, Unai Emery would be an audacious raid on Aston Villa, while a sensational Postecoglou return at the same price would be box-office stuff. At 10/1, Xavi sits alongside Kieran McKenna — the latter a coaching wunderkind who cut his teeth at Manchester United before rising with Ipswich.

Spotlight on the top five

5) Kieran McKenna (10/1) — The 39-year-old is one of the game’s sharpest thinkers. Two rapid promotions at Portman Road announced him as elite coaching stock and, despite last season’s setbacks, he’s stayed loyal. Spurs love a progressive appointment; McKenna fits that brief, though he’s hinted he’s content where he is.

4) Marco Silva (8/1) — Regularly linked away, Silva’s Fulham deal runs down this season, which could make him a cost-effective grab. He knows the league, improves players, and sets sides up to compete. If Spurs want a steady hand without fireworks, Silva is very much in play.

3) Andoni Iraola (6/1) — Many fancied Iraola for the job in the summer before Frank got the nod. Since then, he’s kept Bournemouth trending up despite losing key men, playing on the front foot — exactly what Spurs fans demand. With his contract ticking down, he’s a live option.

2) Oliver Glasner (around 5/1–6/1) — The Crystal Palace boss has transformed the Eagles with a bold 3-4-3, delivered an historic FA Cup and followed up with the Community Shield for good measure. His deal is up at season’s end, and that opens the door. If Spurs want a proven Premier League operator with a clear blueprint, Glasner is near the top of the list.

1) Mauricio Pochettino (3/1) — The romantic choice. A Champions League finalist with Spurs and a manager who understands the club’s heartbeat. Currently leading the USMNT into next summer’s World Cup, a mid-cycle return looks tricky — but he’s never hidden his affection for Tottenham, and the stars could align down the road.

What Spurs need now

First things first, Tottenham must rediscover their verve. Frank needs results — fast — to quieten the noise. Regardless of who’s in the dugout, January will matter: Spurs are expected to be active with forward reinforcements a priority. If performances sharpen and goals return, this whole conversation becomes academic; if not, the shortlist above will get very real, very quickly.
