First weeks and we have a massive game ahead of us. Manchester United opens its season against Chelsea, at the Old Trafford. The two powerhouses of English football are meeting right away without time to get into a competitive routine. But for the fans all over Europe, this will be something to enjoy. There are no favourites in this clash, but we might figure out some picks who are worth trying.
Manchester United wants to go back to the top. And they want to do it immediately. The team recently landed one of the best defenders in Europe, Harry Maguire for a record-breaking fee of more than £80 million. It will present a huge boost for their defence, whose been below average in the last campaign. Back then, United allowed 54 goals, as if they are some mediocre club. However, this season is projected to be a critical one for their big comeback. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer worked hard throughout the summer to find a perfect formula for this team, and according to United’s friendly matches, he did a very good job. The Red Devils had five wins and a draw during the preseason, and even that draw against AC Milan ended with them beating the Italian titan on penalties. We’ve mentioned defence in the upper part of the paragraph, and we will do it here also. Only this time, it is a positive comment. David De Gea’s net has been intact in four of those six games.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s net was often hit by the opponent’s players. But on the other hand, the Blues were very efficient this summer. Five times in the previous six matches, Abraham, Pulisic and the rest of the squad scored at least twice. That resulted in high efficiency of Chelsea’s matches. During that streak, five games saw over 2.5 goals, and also both teams to score. In fact, the latest three games ended with at least four goals. Frank Lampard still fits all the pieces together, but it seems that these young players Blues have will be very interesting to watch in the near future.

Maguire is expected to start the match. The case with Romelu Lukaku is solved, the Belgian international joins Inter Milan for a club record fee of 80m euros (£74m) on a five-year deal. Recent speculations about Paulo Dybala’s arrival at the Old Trafford are terminated after this Tuesday.
As for the Blues, Antonio Rudiger, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are out of the combination. Besides that, everything else is just fine.
This is a tough game for any predictions, indeed. But we have a solution which is the most realistic according to our tipsters – a draw. Both sides will be careful, and neither Solskjaer nor Lampard would like to lose at the very beginning of the league. Plus, nobody wants to suffer a defeat against a great rival. 888sports gives 47/20 on our pick.
If you don’t like that suggestion, we have another one. Under 2.5 goals should be a good bet, partially because of the above mentioned, and also because of United’s strong defence. With Maguire on board, the Red Devils will have one of the best backlines in the league. SkyBet’s odds are at 4/5 for this.
