Roy Keane Tells Man United: Don’t Get Carried Away — Go Big or Go Home

Best betting sites >> Blog >> News>> Roy Keane Man Utd Should Overlook Carrick For Simeone Enrique Tuchel

Michael Carrick has done a tidy job as Manchester United’s interim gaffer — no question. But if you thought that would melt Roy Keane’s glare, you don’t know Roy. After another statement win, the Irishman’s message was simple: enjoy the bounce, then hire a bruiser with a medal-laden CV.

The Carrick bounce — impressive, but not the full job interview

Carrick stepped in back in January, succeeding Ruben Amorim, with United adrift of the Champions League places and the mood flat as week-old lager. Since then, he’s rattled off seven wins in nine, scalping Manchester City and Arsenal along the way and, most recently, beating an in-form Aston Villa 3-1 at Old Trafford.

Casemiro, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko all found the net as United leapfrogged Villa into third. That’s proper momentum, and it’s got the fanbase dreaming again. But Keane, ever the realist, isn’t ready to hand over the keys on a permanent basis just because the car’s purring in fourth gear.

Keane’s verdict: good work from Carrick, but go and get a proven winner

Keane’s argument cuts through the giddiness: interim spells are one thing; living with the heat of contracts, pre-season planning, recruitment and European campaigns is quite another. He reckons United have benefited from cleaner calendars and good timing, while opponents like Villa have juggled Europe. In his eyes, that’s not the same as proving you can run the whole show when the distractions pile up and the pressure bites.

The punchline? Keane believes there are better managers available right now than Carrick for a club of United’s stature — and the board should go big.

Three names on Keane’s shortlist

So who would he go for? Diego Simeone. Luis Enrique. Thomas Tuchel. Big personalities, big records, and big expectations. That’s the calibre Keane wants United to chase. Tuchel has recently extended his deal elsewhere, which may complicate matters, but the principle remains: identify the elite and make them say no. If the top targets want hefty wages, Keane says that’s the cost of doing business at Manchester United.

What it means for United now

United, by Keane’s reckoning, are well placed to book a Champions League return — job one for any incoming manager. But the real test comes in building a side that competes for trophies every season, at home and in Europe. That’s where experience counts. Carrick’s made a classy audition, simplifying things and getting results — and fair play to him — yet the decision this summer should be about ceilings, not purple patches.

Next up, Bournemouth on Friday, 20 March, where the pressure to keep this run rolling doesn’t let up. For those sizing up form, fixtures and title talk, our pick of the best betting sites has you covered before the weekend’s whistle blows.

Keane’s bottom line? Enjoy the ride, but don’t confuse a bright cameo for a box-office lead. United should aim for the very top — and if Simeone, Enrique or Tuchel can be tempted, you make the call and you make it count.
