Balogun to Spurs? Pump the brakes – De Zerbi’s focus lies elsewhere

The Monaco and USMNT striker has admirers, no doubt, and his recent international form has put him firmly on radars. But as things stand, Spurs aren’t moving for him – and when you look at the bigger picture, that stance makes perfect sense.

Why the Balogun buzz doesn’t stack up

For starters, the mooted £51.2m fee is a chunky outlay for a club that’s already pushed the boat out. The plan is clear: add pace and punch out wide. Targets in that area have been explored, with names like Savinho and Cody Gakpo circulating. A striker could yet arrive, but only if the deal is spot-on – or if the deck gets reshuffled by an exit. As it stands, there’s no indication De Zerbi is ushering out Dominic Solanke or Richarlison.

Current centre-forward stable

Tottenham aren’t short of options through the middle. Solanke and Richarlison offer contrasting profiles, while Dane Scarlett adds depth and promise. Given that trio, splashing a premium fee on another front man – particularly one who’d bring derby baggage – feels like a luxury rather than a necessity.
