As boxing promotion goes into overdrive in the lead up to a big fight, expect multiple press conferences, extensive media coverage, face-offs between the boxers and, of course, early betting odds and promotions from the bookmakers.

With bets being placed as soon as a fight is announced, the boxing betting odds move quickly as punters look for signs of strength and weakness in every press conference or piece of training footage. These prices can change all the way up to the opening bell on fight night, presenting great opportunities for making money by betting on boxing.

In this article, we’re going to reveal the best boxing betting sites and how to bet on boxing too.

Live Betting on Boxing

As if betting on boxing wasn’t exciting enough, live betting on the big fight takes things to another level.

Betting in-between rounds of a live boxing event

It should be said that live betting on boxing is not for the faint-hearted as a blow to the chin or a stumble from one of the boxers can make the betting odds go from one extreme to the other. The favourite you were backing could lose in an instant – but this unpredictability also means there are big profits to be made by betting in-play.

As with all forms of live betting, you have to make your decision and get your bet on quickly before the opportunity or price disappears. If you prefer more time to decide what you’re going to do, you will be better off betting in-between rounds or before the boxing match starts.

With the majority of big fights now being televised, the chances of finding a good live stream are high. By following the boxing action and keeping an eye on the betting odds, you should be able to spot value bets and win by trading your position.

Duck and Dive with the Boxing Betting Odds

It is not uncommon for the odds of the two fighters to “flip flop”, with the underdog suddenly becoming the favourite. This kind of thing can leave less experienced punters wondering how boxing betting really works.

While this kind of extreme price movement is common when betting in-play, it can happen before the fight too. This is normally seen when two closely-matched boxers are fighting and the betting odds are already fairly close, perhaps 1.8 and 2.2. All it takes for the odds to switch is for one boxer to appear tired or nervous (or his or her opponent to look particularly good) in a public appearance in the lead-up to fight night.

This kind of thing is not easy to predict, of course. The odds on the favourite are just as likely to shorten. Still, by keeping an eye on the betting odds, you can follow the trend. If you see one boxer’s odds start to shorten, you can back them on one of the best boxing betting sites with the hope of trading out at a lower price later on.

As you’d expect, best betting sites for boxing have come up with lots of markets too. Ever wondered what round betting in boxing is?

Round betting in boxing is just betting on which round you expect your boxer to win in. For instance, you could back Tyson Fury to win in round 6. Round betting gives you much higher odds than just picking a winner for the match. It’s usually useful where a big hitter is facing a relatively weak opponent, and there’s a good chance of a first-round KO.

As round betting requires you to be really specific, many boxing punters prefer to bet on a group of rounds. For instance, you can back a boxer to win in rounds 1-3 or 4-6. This gives you more chance of a win while still giving you better boxing odds than just picking the winner.

How to Bet on Boxing Every Weekend

Boxing offers a lot of betting opportunities for a savvy punter. Styles make fights, and a big name can be beaten easily by an underdog whose skillset is a bad match-up for them. If you think you will be successful at betting on boxing, you will be happy to know there are matches taking place every weekend.

When betting on boxing online, it’s a good idea to have accounts with a number of the best betting sites so you can take advantage of the best odds and promotions. We’ll discuss the best boxing betting sites later on.

It should be noted that, while there are fights on nearly every weekend, the big-name fights are going to have more markets and attract more money, providing more liquidity at the betting exchanges. Still, there are advantages to the smaller fights too: less betting activity often increases your chance of finding profitable value bets.

Researching Your Boxing Bets

Finding out information about any sport is easier than ever, and it’s worth investing a bit of time in finding out everything you need to know to make good betting decisions.

Pay attention to the opinions and insights of some of the boxing experts in the lead-up to the match. Making notes of their predictions – both in terms of the result and how the action will go – will allow you to judge their track record and see who can be trusted. This will help you when betting on boxing in the future.

Look up the fight record for each boxer. When was their last fight? Are they likely to be suffering from ring rust? Does one boxer have a significant reach or weight advantage? How did the previous match go if they’ve fought before?

Taking the time to carry out this kind of research will pay dividends in the long run and make your betting experience far more enjoyable.

For example, when then-champion Vladimir Klitschko fought Tyson Fury in 2015, the Ukrainian was a big favourite not only before the match but all the way through it, right up to the final bell. While Tyson Fury’s price did shorten, it in no way reflected his performance in the ring. Any savvy boxing punter watching that fight could get big odds on a Fury victory – and it would have turned out to be a winning bet.

Of course, there have been a number of allegations of fixed or biased judging in boxing over the years which could put some people off. To make sure this isn’t going to be an issue, either avoid fights taking place in one of the boxers’ home countries or bet on the TKO/KO markets, not results that go to the judges’ decision.

If the boxing betting odds look out of sync with what’s happening in the ring, you don’t have to be paranoid about the judges’ scoring. Often, it’s just a case of heavy backing for the other fighter, particularly if they started off as the favourite. Boxing fans can get caught up in the illogical feeling that their fighter is going to find a win from somewhere, even if a neutral can see the opponent is performing better.

Use these situations to find value bets and win more from your boxing betting.

Boxing Betting Promotions

As fight night gets nearer, look out for betting promotions that you can use to increase your profits.

Log in to your bookmaker and find their “Specials” or “Promotions” page to see what they’re offering for the boxing. Free bets and boosted odds give you the chance to make risk-free profits by laying them off at lower odds (or, in the case of a free bet, a lower stake) at the betting exchange. Use a matched betting calculator to work out the stakes you need to use for the different prices.

If the boxing match has just been announced, it’s worth looking for arbitrage opportunities too. Bookmakers will publish their prices early but will usually make a lot of adjustments in the first few days, matching demand and competitors’ prices. By keeping an eye on the boxing betting odds at the sportsbooks and exchanges, you have a good chance of making more risk-free profits.

The Verdict

The big profits are going to be found by betting on boxing in-play. Here you can take advantage of the swings in prices, trading your position to increase your payout.

For instance, if you know one boxer is a big hitter and always starts fights at a fast pace, you can back him before the fight starts. As he appears to have the upper hand in the early rounds, his price will drop. You can either trade out and lock-in your profit or hope for the knockout that wins the bet immediately.

However, if his opponent is renowned for great defence and stamina, watch for the turning point in the fight. The betting odds can change very quickly in boxing so you might be better trading out of your previous bet after round 5. You should make an immediate profit and be able to back the other boxer at higher odds than you could before the fight.

As the fight goes on, the boxer with better stamina should transition to being the favourite. Again, you can leave your bet running for the big win or trade out and guarantee profits whatever happens.

Do your research on the boxers, look at how their fights usually finish (KO, decision and so on), how many rounds they usually go, and have a betting plan before the match starts. Stick to that plan and trust your instincts if you’re watching the fight live. If you think a price is wrong, take advantage of it!
